My name is David Jackson. I was born on 23rd June 1958. I live in Northwich in Cheshire, known to the Romans as Condate, with my parents and sister.

If you are interested in railways, my gallery of railway photographs will be of interest.
I have just bought my first digital camera, a Canon Ixus 50. I'm starting a gallery of pictures. There's not much there yet, but that will change.
In February 2003, I started work as a Retail Support Specialist in Stockport. I am now a Progress Developer with the same company. Until April 2002 I was a programmer with and Technical Support Manager of Clares Micro Supplies Ltd, working on Acorn computers, which use the RISC OS operating system. They also custom built PCs. The company was based in Middlewich, known to the Romans as Salinae. I did technical support for RISC OS and also for the PCs and Windows software sold by Clares. I also did programming for RISC OS, mostly in C, but also in BBC BASIC and ARM assember. I did some C programming using Visual C on the PC as well. If you are interested in RISC OS applications, why not have a look at riscos.org. If on the other hand you have a PC running Windows, the MVP site is a good place to look for info.
I have both a Risc PC and a Windows PC running Windows XP. I tend to use the PC more than the Risc PC these days, because that's what I use at work and I want to improve my Windows knowledge.
I am a Catholic and attend the traditional Latin Mass, at the churches of the Society of St Pius X at either Manchester or Liverpool.
I have an intense dislike of the European Union, though certainly not of Europe. The EU is thoroughly infected by the false philosophies behind the French Revolution, so often condemned by various Popes.
I read a number of newsgroups and occasionally post to some of them. The ones you are most likely to see me on are the comp.sys.acorn.* hierarchy and uk.railway.
If anyone is interested, details of my recent holidays are available (updated July 2006).
I have several interests. I play chess very badly, not having played a human for many years (I have Fritz 7). I have a short wave radio, which is handy for listening to stations from around the world. I am interested in railways, although I don't travel by train very much these days.
I am interested in genealogy, as can be seen from the GEDCOM file above. I like walking and there are certainly plenty of very pleasant walks in the Northwich area. I am a member of the Northwich and District Heritage Society (or at least I was until I forgot to renew my subscription). My musical tastes are for Gregorian chant and for the Tudor and baroque periods. My CD collection includes music by Byrd, Dowland, Corelli, Vivaldi, Bach, Handel, Teleman and Purcell, among others. Some interesting links can be found below.
Here are some photographs taken from a PhotoCD of my photographs, prepared for demonstrating the PhotoCD capabilities of one of the programs produced by Clares Micro Supplies. Click on the pictures or the link for a larger version. These pictures are © and may not be used without permission.
